How to Display a Skirmish Force or Warband
A skirmish warband is small, characterful and individually painted — every model earns its own spotlight. That makes a full cabinet overkill and a flat shelf a waste, because your specialists end up hidden behind each other. A compact tiered stand is the ideal home for an elite force: it keeps the whole crew visible, organised and ready to grab for game night.
Match the Stand to the Warband
Most skirmish forces are 6–12 models with a mix of base sizes. Two WarSplay formats cover almost every warband:
- Classic Mini (8 slots): the core of the warband — troopers and specialists on 25mm–32mm bases in a small footprint that fits beside your wet palette or on a monitor stand.
- Hero Mini (5 slots): for leaders, heavies and centrepieces on bases up to 50mm, raised so your most-detailed models stand out from the rank and file.
Because every WarSplay stand shares flat interlocking edges, you can clip a Classic Mini and a Hero Mini together into one seamless display and add more as your collection grows. Browse the full skirmish & warband stands.
Lay Out the Force for Maximum Impact
Put your leader and any large models on the top tier so the eye lands there first. Group troopers by role on the lower tiers, and leave a small gap between larger bases so shoulders and weapons do not overlap. The anti-glare matte finish keeps cabinet and lamp light off the surface, so your freehand and edge highlights read clearly — on the shelf and on camera.
Pro Tip: Make It Game-Ready
Magnetise the warband so the whole force travels as one and snaps back into place after a game. A ferrous sheet on each tier plus a magnet under each base gives a secure hold — full steps in our magnetising guide.
Compatibility
The system is designed for compatibility with popular skirmish ranges, including miniatures from Kill Team®, Warcry®, Necromunda® and other 28mm–32mm tabletop systems, plus larger characters on bases up to 80mm via the Hero. Made in the UK, fully assembled, no glue required.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if my warband grows into a full army?
The stands are modular, so you link additional units side by side rather than replacing anything. See the Size Guide for scaling up.
Can one stand mix infantry and a big centrepiece?
Yes — the Hero Mini and Hero are built for mixed base sizes, so a leader or monster can sit alongside your troopers on the same connected display.
