Most deck boxes are sold by card count, but sleeves change everything. A 60-card deck in double sleeves takes up far more room than the number suggests, which is why so many players end up buying a Commander-size box. Here's what fits, game by game.
Which deck box fits your game?
| Game | Typical deck | Usual sleeving | Fits SquadPod Slim? |
|---|---|---|---|
| MTG Commander | 100 cards + tokens | Single | Yes – 100 single-sleeved + 10 tokens |
| MTG 60-card formats | 60 + 15 sideboard | Often double | Yes – deck and sideboard double-sleeved |
| Pokémon TCG | 60 cards | Often double | Yes, with room to spare |
| One Piece Card Game | 50 + leader + DON!! cards | Often double | Yes |
| Gundam Card Game | 50-card main deck | Often double | Yes |
| Yu-Gi-Oh! | 40–60 + extra deck | Often double | Yes – smaller cards, so expect extra space |
How many double-sleeved cards fit in a 100-card deck box?
Usually around 85–90. SquadPod Slim holds 100 single-sleeved cards or approximately 90 double-sleeved, which covers any 50 or 60-card deck with room left over. For the maths behind it, see single vs double sleeving explained.
Do I need a separate deck box for 60-card decks?
Not necessarily. A Commander-size box gives a double-sleeved 60-card deck the space it needs, plus room for counters or a sideboard. Small 75-card boxes are often a squeeze once inner and outer sleeves go on.
Will a 60-card deck box fit my sideboard?
Only if it's sized generously. A 60-card main deck and 15-card sideboard, both double-sleeved, is 75 cards – fine in SquadPod Slim, tight in many 80-card boxes. Using the two side-by-side stacks, you can keep main deck and sideboard separate too.
Will smaller Japanese-size cards fit?
Yes. Games that use smaller cards fit easily in a standard-size box; they just have a little more room to move. Adding a few tokens or a divider helps stop them sliding about.
What's the difference between single and double sleeving?
Single sleeving uses one sleeve per card; double sleeving adds a tight inner sleeve underneath for extra protection against spills and dust. It roughly adds 10–15% to the thickness of a deck, so always check a box's double-sleeved capacity. Our card and sleeve size guide has the measurements.
Can I display my best card in the window?
Yes. The front window and toploader on SquadPod Slim are designed for a Commander, but they work just as well for your star card or leader. It's an easy way to tell decks apart at a glance – see how to tell decks apart.
How do I stop double-sleeved cards curling?
Store decks upright, out of direct sun and away from damp. Tight boxes that squash cards can make curling worse, so give double-sleeved decks a little room. More in why cards curl and how to stop it.
