Where most betta accessories either float on top or sit on the bottom, this gives your betta, shrimp or amphibian a proper resting spot in the middle of the water column, where they naturally hover and rest in the wild. Why mid-water matters

Bettas don't naturally rest only at the surface — in the wild, they perch on broad leaves at varying depths to breathe air, ambush prey and recover from swimming. Most "betta hammock" products are either surface-floating or substrate-fixed, forcing the fish to use the wrong depth. The Mushroom Ledge solves this: position it anywhere from a few centimetres below the surface to halfway down your tank, and your fish gets a resting spot at the depth it actually wants.

How to install

1. Clean the glass area where you want to mount the ledge — algae or biofilm reduces suction grip
2. Press the suction cups onto the glass and hold for 10 seconds
3. Position at your preferred depth — start a few centimetres below the surface for bettas, lower for shrimp or amphibian use
4. Test by gently tugging the ledge — it should hold firm
5. Reposition any time by gently lifting and re-mounting

How is this different from your other betta accessories?

Frequently asked questions

Will the suction cups actually hold?

Yes — on clean glass, the cups hold firm. The main reason suction cups fail is algae or biofilm on the glass surface; clean the mounting area before installing. If grip weakens after months in a tank, briefly remove and warm the cups in tap water to restore flexibility.

Will my betta actually use it?

Most do within 24-48 hours. Bettas are naturally curious and will explore the ledge as new tank furniture. If your fish doesn't use it immediately, try repositioning closer to the surface (within 3-5cm) — bettas favour shallower rest spots when they want to breathe air.

Is it safe for shrimp?

Yes. PETG is shrimp-safe (no copper, no leaching). Shrimp use the broad ledge surface as a grazing platform — biofilm and algae naturally form on the top, which shrimp graze continuously.

Can I use it in a paludarium or vivarium?

Yes — the mushroom ledge is one of the best vivarium platforms for tree frogs, dart frogs and arboreal geckos because the broad surface gives them a stable mid-height resting spot. Suction cups attach to the vivarium glass like an aquarium.

What depth should I position it at?

For bettas: 3-8cm below the surface so they can rest before darting up to breathe. For shrimp: anywhere in the mid-water column. For amphibians: closer to the water line so they can climb on and off easily.

Does it work in saltwater tanks?

Designed for freshwater. PETG is inert but we don't currently certify saltwater longevity — for reef and marine setups, source dedicated marine-safe decor.

How do I clean it?

Lift off the glass during your weekly water change, wipe gently with an aquarium-safe sponge, and reattach. Never use soap or detergent. Algae build-up on the ledge surface is actually beneficial — shrimp and bettas both graze it.
