Once you own more than two Commander decks, grabbing the right one on your way out the door gets surprisingly hard. The easiest fix is to colour-code your boxes to each deck's colour identity. Here's a quick guide.
SquadPod colourways and the decks they suit
| Colourway | Body · lid and latch | Pairs well with |
|---|---|---|
| Bone | Black · sand | Mono-black, white-black, artifact decks |
| Harbour | Navy · white | Mono-blue, white-blue, control decks |
| Field | Olive · brown | Mono-green, black-green, lands and ramp decks |
| Blossom | Baby pink · white | Mono-white, red-white, lifegain decks |
| Frost | Baby blue · sand | Blue-green, spellslinger and snow decks |
| Build your own | Your two colours | Mono-red, three-colour and five-colour decks |
The five colourways are on SquadPod Slim; "build your own" is the Commander Deck Box with Card Stand, where you pick both colours.
What is colour identity in Commander?
Your commander's colour identity is every colour in the mana symbols on its card, including its rules text. Every card in your deck has to fit inside that identity. It's also a handy way to theme your deck box.
Why colour-code deck boxes?
It saves time and mix-ups. You can grab the right deck at a glance, packing for game night is quicker, and there's less chance of leaving your favourite deck at home. More ideas in how to tell your Commander decks apart.
What colour deck box should I use for a five-colour deck?
Pick the colour that reflects the deck's main theme, or choose a two-colour combination that stands out from your other boxes. A custom combination on the Card Stand box is the easiest way to give a five-colour deck its own look.
What if two of my decks share the same colours?
Use the display window. With your commander on show at the front, two boxes in the same colourway are still easy to tell apart. A small label on the base works too.
Can I choose custom deck box colours?
On the Commander Deck Box with Card Stand, yes: you choose the main body colour and the lid and lock colour. SquadPod Slim comes in five set two-tone colourways chosen to suit the most popular colour pairs.
Does colour matter for a gift?
It's the easiest way to make a deck box feel personal. If you know their favourite deck, match its colours; if not, Bone and Harbour are safe, classic picks. See what to buy a Commander player who has everything.
