Nobody plans to own twelve Commander decks. It just happens. One precon becomes three, a brew becomes a rebuild, and suddenly your Magic: The Gathering® collection has taken over a bookshelf. Here's how to store multiple Commander decks so they stay protected, easy to find and compact.
1. Give every deck its own box
Elastic bands and loose stacks are how cards get bent, mixed up and lost. Every deck you actually play deserves its own rigid box. It's the single biggest upgrade to a collection's organisation.
Fabric pouches are tempting because they're cheap, but they don't stack and don't stop cards bending – we explain why in fabric vs hard deck boxes.
2. Go slim to save shelf space
Most 100-card deck boxes stack your deck in one tall tower, which makes each box fat. Line up ten of them and you've lost a shelf.

SquadPod Slim splits a Commander deck into two side-by-side stacks, so each box is only 50 mm deep (approx. 168 × 100 × 50 mm). Stood upright like books, a row of them takes a fraction of the depth of traditional boxes and fits standard bookshelves, cube storage and drawers.
3. Label decks by commander, not by marker pen
Scribbled labels fade and peel. SquadPod Slim has a front display window with a rigid toploader, so your commander card is the label. Glance at the shelf and you know exactly which deck is which.

4. Colour-code by deck type
With five SquadPod colourways you can build a simple system:
- Field (olive/brown) – green and creature-heavy decks
- Bone (black/sand) – black, graveyard and aristocrat decks
- Frost (baby blue/sand) – blue, control and spellslinger decks
- Blossom (pink/white) – white, lifegain or your "fun" decks
- Harbour (navy/white) – multicolour or your main deck
5. Keep tokens with their deck
Losing tokens between decks is a classic headache. Each SquadPod Slim holds 10 tokens alongside 100 single-sleeved cards, so the tokens live with the deck that makes them.
6. Store away from heat, damp and sunlight
Cards warp in damp rooms and fade in direct sunlight. Avoid garages, lofts and windowsills. Many of the same rules apply to painted miniatures – see our guide on where not to store miniatures.
7. Have a grab-and-go deck
Keep your most-played deck in a slim box by the door or in your bag, ready for game night. See the best slim MTG deck boxes for travel.
