MTG Bundle Box Dimensions: How Many Cards Fit, and Is It Good Storage?

Quick answer: the card storage box that comes in a Magic: The Gathering bundle is a tall cardboard box, roughly 8cm wide, 11cm high and 18–19cm deep on recent sets. Retailer listings for a 2026 bundle box quote about 8.3 × 10.7 × 18.5cm, holding 400+ unsleeved, 300+ single-sleeved or 250+ double-sleeved cards. That is enough for two Commander decks double-sleeved, or a whole set's worth of lands and tokens. Sizes change between sets, so measure yours before planning around it.

Bundle boxes are free with the product and surprisingly roomy, so plenty of players keep using them. Here is what fits, what does not, and when it is worth moving to a dedicated deck box.

What is in an MTG bundle?

A bundle (once called a Fat Pack) is a boxed set of booster packs with extras. Contents vary by set, but a recent bundle typically includes a stack of Play Boosters, a set of foil and non-foil basic lands, a promo card, an oversized spindown life counter, reference cards and the card storage box itself. Once the boosters are opened, the storage box is the part most people keep.

Bundle box dimensions and capacity

The figures below are for a recent bundle storage box as listed by retailers. Treat them as a guide, because Wizards of the Coast changes the box from time to time, and older Fat Pack boxes were a different shape.

Measurement Typical recent bundle box
Width About 8.3cm
Height About 10.7cm
Depth (front to back) About 18.5cm
Unsleeved cards 400+
Single-sleeved cards 300+
Double-sleeved cards 250+

For reference, a standard Magic card is 63 × 88mm and a standard sleeve is about 66 × 91mm. The box is just wide enough for sleeved cards standing on their long edge, which is why it works so well for bulk storage. Our MTG card and sleeve sizes guide covers the measurements in more detail.

How many decks fit in a bundle box?

  • Commander (100 cards), double-sleeved: about two decks, with a little room for tokens.
  • Commander, single-sleeved: about three decks if you skip dividers.
  • 60-card decks, sleeved: four or five, depending on sleeve thickness.
  • Unsleeved: a full set of basic lands plus several hundred commons and uncommons.

Thicker or premium sleeves take more room, and dividers eat into capacity quickly. If you want exact figures for your sleeves, our guide to deck box capacity for single and double sleeving explains how to work it out.

Is a bundle box good storage?

It depends on where the cards are going.

Use Bundle box Dedicated deck box
Bulk, lands and tokens at home Good: roomy and free Overkill
Spare decks on a shelf Fine, with dividers Better if you swap decks often
Carrying a deck to game night Weak: card stock, loose lid Better: rigid, secure closure
Protection from knocks and damp Low Higher, depending on the box

The main weaknesses are the materials and the lid. Card stock dents, softens in damp conditions and wears at the corners. The lift-off lid can come away in a bag, and a part-filled box lets cards slide and bend at the edges. Damp storage can also make foils curl; see why MTG cards curl.

Making the most of a bundle box

  1. Use dividers to split decks, lands and tokens so nothing gets mixed up.
  2. Pack the gaps with a folded card or foam block so cards stay upright and do not slide.
  3. Label the end facing out on the shelf so you can find a deck at a glance.
  4. Keep it dry and flat, away from windowsills and radiators.
  5. Use it as a home base: store tokens, spare lands and sideboard cards in it, and carry the deck itself in something sturdier.

When to switch to a deck box

Once a deck leaves the house regularly, a dedicated deck box is worth having. Look for one that fits your sleeved card count, with a closure that will not pop open in a bag. Our own SquadPod deck boxes are made to order in Northumberland. The SquadPod Rugged holds 100+ single-sleeved cards with a locking lid and a top loader for your commander. The SquadPod Slim takes a 100-card deck plus 10 tokens in a case just 50mm deep. For a wider comparison, see how to choose the best MTG deck box and MTG deck box sizes explained.

Frequently asked questions

What are the dimensions of an MTG bundle box?

Recent bundle storage boxes are roughly 8cm wide, 11cm high and 18–19cm deep. One 2026 bundle box is listed at about 8.3 × 10.7 × 18.5cm. Sizes vary between sets, so measure yours.

How many cards fit in an MTG bundle box?

Retailer listings for a recent bundle box quote 400+ unsleeved cards, 300+ single-sleeved cards or 250+ double-sleeved cards.

Can a Commander deck fit in a bundle box?

Yes, easily. A recent bundle box holds about two double-sleeved Commander decks or around three single-sleeved ones.

Is a bundle box good for carrying a deck?

It works at a pinch, but the card stock and lift-off lid offer little protection in a bag. A rigid deck box with a secure closure is safer for regular travel.

Are all MTG bundle boxes the same size?

No. The box design changes from time to time, and older Fat Pack boxes were a different shape. Check the listing for your set or measure the box.
