THE CABINET BLUEPRINT

Turn shelf dimensions into a WarSplay layout

Start with a common cabinet, replace the preset with your measured internal space, then plan from a collection or check the stands you already own.

1 2 3 4
01 Choose a cabinet starting point

Presets are editable starting measurements. Internal usable space varies by production version, inserts, hinges and shelf position.

Custom shelf Use the actual internal clear dimensions of the shelf surface, not the furniture's external dimensions.
02 Enter the usable shelf space
How to measure a cabinet correctly

Measure the flat area the stand can actually occupy. Subtract door frames, hinge sweeps, shelf lips, cable channels and any space you want around the display.

03 What are we fitting?

Use physical base categories, not game or faction names. Add a growth buffer in step 4 if the collection is expanding.

04 Set the planning rules

The top-down plan uses product bounding footprints. Miniature poses, weapons and scenic bases may extend beyond those rectangles.

POPULAR CABINET STARTING POINTS

Plan WarSplay stands for IKEA KALLAX, BILLY, BLÅLIDEN, MILSBO, FABRIKÖR and more

The furniture name gets you to a useful starting point. The internal shelf measurement makes the plan reliable.

KALLAXCube-style shelf planning

Useful depth for rotated Classic and Mini layouts. Measure each open cube after inserts, doors or lighting are fitted.

BILLYWide adjustable shelves

Good for long core-range builds. Enter the actual shelf height after setting the adjustable shelf pins.

BLÅLIDENNarrow glass-cabinet shelves

Width is the limiting factor. Mini formats and carefully rotated footprints can unlock more of the shelf.

MILSBOWide glass display planning

Plan across the width, then check door frames and shelf supports before committing to a multi-module layout.

FABRIKÖRDeeper cabinet layouts

Extra depth can support two rows or rotated stands, depending on the exact internal shelf and front clearance.

LEGACY DETOLFOwner-measured legacy preset

DETOLF units and modifications vary. Treat the preset as a starting point and tick measured only after checking your own shelf.

IKEA and the named furniture ranges are third-party marks used only to identify cabinets or shelves visitors may own. WarSplay® is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by IKEA.

MEASURE THE SPACE THAT ACTUALLY EXISTS

External cabinet dimensions are not usable shelf dimensions.

Frames, doors, hinges, shelf clips and rear cable gaps can remove several centimetres from the space a display stand can occupy.

  1. 1
    Measure internal width

Use the narrowest clear point between frames or supports.

  2. 2
    Measure flat usable depth

Stop before the door sweep, front lip or cable channel.

  3. 3
    Measure clear height

Include the shelf above, lighting bars and the tallest model.

  4. 4
    Keep a handling margin

A packed layout can fit mathematically and still be unpleasant to install.

PLANNER QUESTIONS

What the cabinet planner can — and cannot — guarantee

Should I use the cabinet's advertised dimensions?

No. Use internal usable shelf width, depth and height. Presets are only editable starting points because frames, doors and shelf hardware reduce the usable area.

Does the plan account for weapons, wings and scenic bases?

The top-down plan uses the WarSplay product footprint. Miniatures can overhang their own bases, so check the actual models before treating the result as a guaranteed fit.

Can the planner use more than one shelf?

Yes. Enter the number of identical shelf spaces available and the planner will distribute modules across them. Different shelf sizes should be planned separately.

Why does rotating a stand sometimes improve the result?

Deep shelves can fit a 20×11cm stand more efficiently when the 20cm dimension runs front to back. Check that the display still faces the direction you want.

Can I plan a KALLAX, BILLY or glass cabinet?

Yes. Select the relevant starting preset, then replace it with your measured internal dimensions. The generic tool works for any cabinet, bookcase, shelf or display case.

Does the planner check vertical clearance?

Yes, when you enter the tallest model height. It adds the tallest stand in the plan and your chosen safety gap, then compares the total with the clear shelf height.

Can I add the whole plan to my cart?

The optional plan-cart feature can add first-available variants. It is disabled by default because products with theme or finish choices should be reviewed on their product pages first.

Is WarSplay connected with IKEA?

No. Furniture names are used factually to help owners identify common shelf types. WarSplay® is an independent product range made by Blubbercove Ltd.

FROM EMPTY SHELF TO FINISHED DISPLAY

Measure the cabinet. Build the layout. Then make the collection visible.

Use the planner result as the footprint blueprint, then confirm every product's capacity and your models' overhang before ordering.
